What I love about social media
What I love about social media (and my very first blog post!)
4/7/16
Today is a very special day (hint: it has to do with the title of this blog). Yep, you probably guessed it; this is my first time posting from a blogging medium! I guess that is not much of a feat considering I'm not new to social media; however, I'm not much of a writer. This is an awesome platform to express my thoughts and share feedback on others' writing and I can see myself utilizing it for many other subjects.
Today's post is about my love for social media, or rather, what aspects of social media I truly enjoy. Let's begin with Facebook. Facebook allows us to connect with current and past friends, family members, and co-workers. It has allowed millions of users to share important milestones in their lives and reach out to those who experienced these moments. I have established friendships through Facebook and have reached out to dozens of old friends to reconnect. Of course with the good comes the bad. Too often we hear of stories where people are getting fired for content they posted, utilizing social media to put someone on "blast", and simply using social media to their disadvantage. A rule of thumb to go by before you post something online is to ask yourself whether it is useful, too personal, or grandma approved. If content you post is TMI, perhaps you are better off keeping it to yourself. Make social media a fun experience, but do not forget to act appropriately and safely.
Strangely enough, social media is used as a platform for finding significant others. Besides the dating apps, Facebook can be used in a way of itself to meet new people and connect with mutual friends. In fact, thousands of couples meet online nowadays. It isn't so uncommon anymore.
I think Facebook is an awesome tool if you utilize it properly. Like I mentioned before, make sure to use it appropriately, though.

Jennie,
ReplyDeleteAwesome advice and great post. For someone who is not a writer, you've got some solid skills. Things to build on; think of 3 valid points you want to make and drive home your topic and point each time. Maybe add some pictures for user appeal and some words that POP for SEO value. I think you are on to something great.
Welcome to blogging! I use to have a personal blog years ago and loved writing about my life. I hope you find it to be a fun experience. I would have to agree with Monsonique that adding pictures is a great appeal for those reading your posts. It gives them something visual to look at that helps draw them in to your posts. Enjoy.

ReplyDeleteJennie this is great! I'm so glad Facebook has improved your life! That's what i was created for, not for stalkers and scams. I actually dated a guy for four years, and we first started talking on Facebook! we were safe because we had mutual friends, however, there are some scary people out there and dating randoms from social media can be tricky. Great post though, you have a wonderful voice!
Very interesting post, I hope someday I have the expertise and confidence you have in the social media realm. The dating thing as you say is becoming a norm, but needs to be used safely like you suggest.
